As a fan of Murray Walker and Formula 1 season review titles, imagine my delight to find one rolled up together in the form of Murray Walker’s Grand Prix Year, first published in 1987 and the first in a sequence of season review penned by the world’s most famous motorsport commentator.
Sadly, Mr Walker has long since stopped writing these end-of-year treats, and it’s a great shame, because this is how a season review book should be for the armchair fan.
There’s more than enough information and analysis for the hardcore fan, but it’s presented in Murray’s easy-to-understand manner suited for the everyday fan.
Today’s season reviews often – almost single-mindedly, we would argue – focus only on the battle at the front of the field, but Murray makes sure everything is touched upon up and down the grid. With each race review chapter, there’s a team-by-team summary of their respective race weekend – what more could you want?
